Repeat Prescriptions

Patients on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways:

  • By post - enclosing a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you.
  • By email - hazelvalley.prescriptions@nhs.net
  • By hand - drop your repeat slip in at reception or place it in the prescription box provided.
  • Via your pharmacy - some local pharmacies will collect on your behalf, please enquire at a pharmacy of your choice.
  • Online - via the link at the top of this page (you must sign up for this service in person first, please enquire at reception).
  • EPS - The NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) means we can now send prescriptions instantly to any pharmacy of your choice.  Please discuss this service with your preferred local pharmacy.

Please note we do not accept requests over the telephone.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Electronic Prescribing Service

This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service.

This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly saving you having to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be reviewed in person or remotely by a doctor, nurse practitioner, pharmacist or practice nurse at least once a year to review regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Over The Counter Medicines

As a result of local and national strategies please be aware that we will be limiting prescriptions of Over The Counter (OTC) medicines for minor ailments.

This means that instead of receiving prescriptions for short term conditions (e.g. for paracetamol or ibuprofen), patients will be encouraged to self care and buy these from their own local Pharmacy or Supermarket.

  • There are no plans to limit Over The Counter (OTC) medicines for people with long-term health conditions.
  • GPs will be able to prescribe in circumstances of clinical need.
